This is a marvelous appliance because it is just so darn simple! I bought one to keep in my office at work for making tea, and it has worked out great!

There isn't even an on/off switch. Just put water in it, plug it in, and a red light goes off when it is ready to pour. Put a mug under the dispenser, push the lever, and there you go!

One reviewer said that it does not have a fill-to line, and so water can spill over. I don't see this as a problem. Just heat as much water as you need. I fill up my mug with hot water, pour the water into the appliance, and dispense the water when it is hot back into the mug. Oddly enough, I get out exactly the same amount as I put in! Don't try to heat more than 16 ounces at a time.

The Hot Shot does only one thing, but boy does it do it well! Easy to use, simple to clean, and attractive on the counter. Love having hot tea without fussing with heating water in the office microwave!

This is one of my favorite small appliance products ever. I got one of these in the 1980s and it lasted me for years and years. I gave it away to charity and have searched for one since then ! I thought I'd get a new one and it would look 'new' therefore better. But it was still working perfectly when I gave it away. I only hope whoever got it, knew how to use it and likes it as much as I did ! I can't find another one now ! LOL

Anyway, it's been described in the other reviews but I'll add this: Its design is very simple. You plug it in, sit it on your counter top, lift the lid and pour in a couple mugfuls of water (there is a line to show you how much is two cups exactly).
You close the lid, and then you push down the button in front. The light goes on. When the light goes green (if memory serves; it's either that or goes off but either way it's sooo simple to figure out) the water is boiling hot. I had a Hot Shot for many years. I never had a problem with it, and we used ours for everything. Water for tea, coffee, cocoa, instant soups and oatmeal, and other hot drink mixes. The water boils so fast that the only time I use a kettle is if I am making a pot of tea. For a couple of cups of tea, filling the Hot Shot twice is still faster!

I did find that some mugs don't fit under the dispenser, and some mugs dribble when you pour into the compartment. Also, sometimes with a mix like cocoa, when you pour the water into the cup, the inside of the cup area gets dirty. However, I solved all these problems. I got a 2 cup glass measuring cup. It fits perfectly under the dispenser, pours with no drips into the water compartment, and will leave no mess behind. Simply measure the water you need, pour it into the dispenser, dispense the water back into the measuring cup, and pour it where needed. I leave the measuring cup in the Hot Shot when not in use.

This thing makes the greatest hot chocolate and it is so fast and easy. Just add milk and syrup or powdered mix and push the button. They even have marks on the side of the mixing area so you don't need a measuring cup. The hot chocolate is smooth because it is mixed constantly. Even when my mom made it for me as a kid from scratch it never came out this smooth and well mixed. The included recipies are good and fun to try, but we usually go with the super easy milk & Hershey's recipe. My only complaint is that since the main part of the unit is all one peice and it has a cord, you can't submerge it, so cleanup isn't as easy as throwing it all in the sink or dishwasher. That's our only gripe and it's minor. My wife and I live in an area of the country where the winters are really cold and snowy. Cocomotion helps us get through the winter with a much better attitude. When I received this as a gift from my mother-in-law, my first thought was "Here's another thing that takes up a lot of room and doesn't do much. What are we going to do with that???". After all, we have a microwave to make the hot chocolate.

But I've been pleasantly surprised by this machine. We especially like Mexican Hot Chocolate--the circles of cinnamon flavored-chocolate you break up and stir in warm milk. Ordinarily, we heat the milk and chocolate in the microwave and then use an old fashioned egg beater to mix it up to a froth.

In the cocomotion, I just drop everything in and press the button. A few minutes later, great hot chocolate--just the right temp and mixed perfectly! And only one thing to clean!

My tip for cleaning--pour in some clean water and a little dish soap and turn it on for a minute or so. Then rinse clean.

We are pleased with this machine and using it more often than I ever expected to.

I asked for this and received it for Christmas. This is one of the only gadgets that we have used consistently everyday. I love to make it with the Godiva hot chocolate mix (I think you can only buy the mix in Godiva stores). It is so rich and creamy. You pour in the cold milk, add about three tablespoons of cocoa per cup. The machine hold four cups, and has markers for each cup. Then just turn it on, and in about 2-3 minutes the cocoa is stirred and heated perfectly. It will also reheat and remix the cocoa buy just turning on the "on" button. You cannot submerse it in water to clean it, but there are only three parts to clean. The lid, the little magnetic mixer paddle, and the carafe (which you don't need to submerse, just rinse it out with soapy water).

Since I have read that hot cocoa provides the same benefits as a glass of red wine, I don't feel too guilty about downing my two cups a day. It is a good way to get my calcium too. I wasn't expecting to love it... Read more

This was the BEST cup of hot cocoa. We tried the sample that came with our Keurig brewer. Use a bigger mug (to prevent overflow) and use the smaller setting for more richness. Add a dash of cayenne pepper for the ultimate rich taste. So much easier than making it from scratch like we usually do. Also MUCH better than the Green Mountain hot cocoa K-cup.

One of the joys of having a Keurig K-cup machine is that you can make a cup of what anybody wants at anytime (providing that you have it of course). Dark coffee, decaf, flavored coffee, green tea, English tea, herbal tea, etc. This has really made entertaining more fun for both the guest and the host/hostess. Of all of the drinks that I offer my guests the one that often brings smiles to their faces is hot cocoa, especially if the guest is a child.

I have tried all of the hot cocoa k-cups that I could find: Green Mountain and Gloria Jeans hot cocoa, Timothy's White Chocolate, Cafe Escapes Dark Chocolate, etc. So far the hands-down favorite for me is this Ghiradelli mix. As stated in the product description, this is not a K-cup but a pre-measured packet designed for Keurig brewers. The taste is classic Ghiradelli: rich, sweet and heavy on the chocolate. I don't like the three K-cups that are available right now for hot chocolate above about Ok. But this packet version from Ghirardelli is some of the best Hot Chocolate I've ever had. Really a rich chocolate taste.
